The BSF squad was targeted at around 1 pm in the Janbai area of the district, under Chitragonda police station area, 465 kms from Bhubaneswar. Odisha's jungles are a hotbed for Naxal activities as it touches the borders of two other states -- Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh -- making it a corridor for Maoists.

Bangladesh authorities on Monday claimed that an apparently drunk Border Security Force personnel killed three Bangladeshi villagers, after intruding into the northwestern part of its frontier."It was an unfortunate incident, but not a planned attack by BSF," BDR's operations director Colonel Anisur Rahman said in Dhaka.The officer claimed the villagers at frontier Panchagargh district eventually captured the soldier and handed him over to BDR authorities.

R K Birdi, the Border Security Force commanding officer arrested in Srinagar last week in connection with the killing of a 17-year old schoolboy was on Monday admitted to the BSF hospital in Srinagar, after he complained of chest pain.On Saturday, Birdi was remanded to ten days judicial custody by the chief judicial magistrate in Srinagar and subsequently he was shifted to the high-security central jail.Official sources said that Birdi complained of chest pain today morning.
